A huge assortment of weapons are used in combats and brass knuckles outmatch them all. They look cool and they are very effective as well. Have you ever heard of these weapons? Well, if you are a fan of action movies, video games like GTA Vice City or of fighting weapons, then there is a good chance that you are familiar with them. Even many boxing champions also make use of these weapons as it provides extra power to their punches.

I once had the chance to see a fight between two teenage boys at my school. I still don’t know what they were fighting about or how the fight started but what I do know and remember is that the fight was one of my worst nightmares. I had never seen a fight like this before and for the person who does not even see boxing just because of all that blood and wildness, this fight was too much.

Anyhow, it happened last summer; my friends and I were attending summer school. We were in the cafeteria and suddenly we heard lots of noise and bangs. We turned around and saw two boys throwing whatever they could get their hands on, towards each other.

Just when they thought that it was not enough, one of the boys took out his brass knuckle from his jeans pocket, wore them around his knuckles and gave his opponent a menacing stare.

The other boy, who was very confident before, was now starting to shiver and his skin literally paled. At first, I could not understand the reason but then I understood that it was his reaction on seeing those metallic knuckles on his opponent’s hand. The boy with the knuckles made a plunge towards his opponent, took him down on the floor and started punching him with vicious punches.

The force of his punches when combined with the power of those knuckles, literally made those strikes deadly. All of us were very scared now. Blood was coming out of the poor boy’s mouth, nose, head and from everywhere.

All of us were just rooted to the spot and none of us was able to move. We wanted to call the authorities and none of us could even move a little bit. However, somehow someone called the police and soon the authorities arrived.

911 was called and the poor boy who was victimized was given first aid and was taken to hospital. He suffered from severe injuries but made a full recovery, however, it took him months to do so. The other boy was taken into custody by the authorities and he paid the consequences of his actions.

It was about a year ago but still, I shudder when I recall this story and I keep myself away from brass knuckles because now I know as I have seen that they may look cool but are in fact quite dangerous and definitely not something to be taken lightly or played with.

The History as Fighting Weapons

Metal ring and knuckle style weapons go back to so many years ago and have been utilized everywhere throughout the world for a large number of years. The Nihang Sikhs utilized an early variation called Sher Panja in the eighteenth century. Cast iron, metal, lead, and knuckle duster made up of wood were made in the United States during the American Civil War which was held between 1861–1865.

Troopers would frequently purchase cast iron or knuckle reinforcements. On the off chance that they couldn’t get them, they would cut their own ones from wood or cast them at camp by softening lead shots and utilizing a form in the earth.

Some of the knuckles used to have adjusted rings, which would magnify the effect of blows from moderate to serious harm. Different instruments, which are still known as knuckle dusters, brass knuckles or simply knuckles may have spikes, sharp blades and sharp edges. These gadgets come in numerous varieties and are called by an assortment of names but the most common name is knuckles. Numerous items were also made which looked like knuckles or featured their design in one way or the other.

Many items were also made by fusing together brass knuckle with their basic design and one such invention was the Apache revolver. It was a gun which had its handle designed as knucks. These guns were quite popular in France during the twentieth century. Then, knuckle duster knives were designed which were made with the fusion of knuckle dusters and knives. These knives gained so much popularity during the World Wars.

By World War II, knuckles and knuckle knives were very well known with both American and British warriors. The Model 1918 channel blades were reissued to American paratroopers. English Commandos even had their own one of a kind knuckle blade, which included a skull-formed metal knuckle handle.

Now, you know that brass knuckles have been used since forever for fighting but I must emphasize here, that now the times are different and no matter how effective they are, they are still illegal in most of the states of the United States. So, always be super careful with them.
