Shuriken: A Small, Compact, And Easily Portable Weapon
Shuriken is an ancient Japanese throwing weapon. Sometimes described as “throwing stars”, they are typically composed of three parts: the hilt, which is usually made out of metal; the blade, which often has sharp edges on both sides; and sometimes an additional piece called the kabuto that functions as an extension handle. There are many variations in shape and size with each style having its own unique name.
The most common shuriken are flat metal four-sided stars called “yon”. They are typically between two and six inches long, and double-edged with a sharp point. “Yon” means “to pierce” or “to penetrate”, so these weapons are generally thought of as being thrusting or stabbing weapons.
The First Shuriken Were Used By,
Shuriken were first made out of sharpened blades before moving on to the three pronged metal stars we know today. The Chinese were the first to use them effectively, first at around the mid 13th century, citing an example of a rebel army that used them against Mongolian invaders in 1227 AD. Over the centuries, the weapon has evolved from being used as a form of self-defense into a practical tool that can devastate an enemy’s ranks.
In the Edo period it was illegal for anyone except for Samurai class to have weapons. Ninja were an exception because they were considered to be secret agents of the Shogun which meant that they had a license to kill. They used a special shuriken called the Kageboshi which looks like an upside down V with sharp edges instead of spikes.
A Shuriken Can Be Used Offensively And Defensively
Shuriken is a legendary weapon documented in Buddhist literature and folklore. It is said to have been used by the ninja in their assassination missions. They can also be used as an offensive weapon: they can slice and puncture the bodies of humans and animals, and cut through all manner of material, including tree bark, flesh and bone.
They are quite popular with modern martial artists from karate to taekwondo who use them for self-defense against knife attacks or similar threats. There are many fictional depictions of throwing stars featured in movies or video games that exaggerate their abilities or add new ones on it’s own accord.
Types And Styles of Shuriken
A typical shuriken has a length of 15 to 30 cm and resembles a straight iron needle with sharp points on both ends. Historically, the design has two variants: the double-edged and single-edged (known as manji-yorishiro).
It is a flat metal star with sharpened edges but also takes other forms. Ninja stars come in many different sizes and styles depending on their purposes, such as practice weapons (bunshins), badges (horo), tree-climbing tools (kaginawa) or for use in kite fishing.
Ways Of Carrying Shuriken
Shurikens are usually carried in a pouch strapped to the belt, but they can also be placed in other locations on one’s body where they would not hinder movements. Some ninja carried them in one hand. They can be thrown overhand, in an uppercut motion or underhand, depending on their intended use.
They are usually handmade, but when pre-made weapons were not available they would be prepared by smiths in leather bags. Some were made with blades that could be broken off when they hit the target. They are traditionally thrown at targets for practice or practice by ninja, but can also be used for hunting small game or for self-defense.
Shuriken: The Ultimate Throwing Weapon!
Shuriken is obviously designed for throwing. Therefore, they must be small and lightweight enough that they can be easily thrown into an enemy’s face without causing too much damage. Since the weapons weigh only about one-third of an ounce, this means that they could easily be carried in a shoulder bag or tied to one’s waist under clothing.
